The CAR-5070 is the successor of CASwell’s stellar CAR-5058 High-Performance Multi-Networking Solution and delivers significant upgrades both in computational and networking performance. The new rack mount device is also the sister model of CASwell’s cutting-edge system for edge computing, that was released last year. While the CAR-5071 provides configurational choices of storage space, smart NIC and GPU cards for artificial intelligence (AI) computing, the latest CAR-5070 focusses heavily on high-end networking.

By offering up to eight of CASwell’s wide range of network modules for up to 64 Ethernet ports, the CAR-5070 is a high-density network appliance. This high-throughput network device can be used as a router, firewall, load balancer, or network switch, providing many network connections to handle a large volume of data for enterprise, data center, or specialized environments like industrial or military applications requiring extensive network connectivity.

To satisfy even the highest demands of network performance, the CAR-5070 relies on two of Intel’s fifth generation of Xeon Scalable Processors. These CPUs, also known as Emerald Rapids, offer significant advantages over the first generation of Xeon Scalable Processors (Skylake) that are used in the CAR-5058, including significantly higher performance, a larger L3 cache, support for faster DDR5 memory and CXL, an enhanced core architecture, more integrated accelerators for AI and data workloads, and improved performance-per-watt, all while maintaining compatibility with the familiar LGA 4677 socket.

The combination of up to 64 high-speed Ethernet ports and Intel’s latest processor generation is built for environments that need to connect a large number of devices or servers. When used as a network switch, the CAR-5070 can aggregate many network connections to handle high bandwidth and low latency between servers. The system can also perform dedicated network services like enterprise firewalls, intrusion prevention, load balancing, or WAN optimization when it’s acting as a regular network appliance. For industrial or military applications, the CAR-5070 is able to serve as a robust network hub or interface in rugged environments where many connections are needed and high reliability is critical. As part of a data center infrastructure, the CAR-5070 should be essential for connecting various computing components and services efficiently, reducing the need for separate network switches.
