The CASwell CAR-6040 for networking and cybersecurity solutions features Intel’s 5th Generation of Xeon Scalable Processors (SP) with up to 64 performance cores and can support more than 64 Ethernet ports using CASwell’s proprietary network modules. The combination of Intel’s powerful CPU with CASwell’s flexible and sophisticated network modules results in a high-performance system that is suitable for various applications. Whether used for network management or protection, the CAR-6040 can significantly enhance business operations and security.
The CAR-6040 excels in Unified Threat Management (UTM) and is also highly effective in applications such as Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW), catering to organizations that want to customize their security policies and manage their own reporting. The NGFW can be further enhanced with an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to monitor networks for potential threats and application intelligence for more advanced security algorithms.
The CAR-6040 utilizes the latest Xeon SP generation (Emerald Rapids) for the highest performance of Intel’s server processors so far. Compared to the previous generation (Sapphire Rapids), Xeon Gen.5 has increased the maximum core count from 60 to 64, while almost tripling the internal cache size per core (5MB to 1.875MB). This is especially helpful when used for artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and machine learning, which more and more software will adopt for different kind of purposes. Furthermore, the new Xeon processors support faster DDR5 memory speeds (5600 to 4800 MHz) and for the first time include “Advanced Matrix Extensions” (AMX) to accelerate AI inferencing, which means speeding up predictions or conclusions of an already trained AI model.
The device supports a maximum of eight CASwell NIN network modules, providing up to 64 Ethernet ports with data transfer speeds of up to 100-GbE. Additional network connections can be added through an internal PCI Express 5.0 expansion slot when occupied with a network card (NIC), ideally a Smart NIC with intelligent network management. The expansion slot can also be used for a GPU accelerator or DPU-based accelerator card for AI acceleration (graphics or data processing units).
For internal storage, the CAR-6040 includes two M.2 slots and four SATA 3.0 connectors for hard drives and SSDs. It also features two redundant 800-watt power supply units to ensure continuous operation even if one fails.
