  • Redundant Power Supply Unit (CRPS, up to 1600W)

The CASwell CAR-6050 is a 2U rackmount network appliance designed for high-performance data center, cloud, enterprise networking, and cybersecurity applications. Powered by AMD EPYC™ 9005 Series processors, the CAR-6050 combines exceptional CPU and memory scalability with high-density networking and flexible PCIe Gen5 expansion.

Built around a single AMD EPYC 9005 processor in the SP5 platform, the CAR-6050 supports processor configurations ranging from 8 cores up to 192 cores and 384 threads. AMD’s 5th Gen EPYC platform also provides 12 channels of DDR5 memory, giving the system a strong foundation for workloads that depend on high compute density, memory bandwidth, and large-scale virtualization.

The platform is designed for demanding applications including next-generation firewalls (NGFW), Unified Threat Management (UTM), Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), SD-WAN security, intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS), VPN concentration, network traffic inspection, telemetry, and virtualized network functions. With up to 64 Ethernet ports and 640 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) of aggregate networking bandwidth, the CAR-6050 is designed to consolidate multiple network and security functions within a single high-density appliance.

High Core Density for Network Management and Virtualization

One of the CAR-6050’s key differentiators is the core density offered by the AMD EPYC platform. While the CAR-6060 is built around Intel Xeon 6 processors with up to 80 cores, the CAR-6050 can scale to 192 cores in a single socket. This makes the AMD platform particularly well suited to workloads where many software-based network functions, security services, or virtual machines must operate concurrently.

The CAR-6050 also provides 12 DDR5 memory channels, compared with eight channels on the Xeon 6 processors used by the CAR-6060. The additional memory channels can benefit highly parallel network applications, virtualized infrastructure, large connection tables, packet inspection, and analytics workloads that place sustained demands on memory bandwidth.

For cloud and virtualized deployments, AMD EPYC 9005 processors include hardware virtualization capabilities and AMD Infinity Guard technologies such as Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) and SEV-SNP, which can help protect virtual machine memory and integrity even in environments where the hypervisor cannot be fully trusted. This makes the CAR-6050 well suited to multi-tenant infrastructure and security-sensitive virtualized network functions.

Flexible Networking and PCIe Gen5 Acceleration

The CAR-6050 supports up to eight CASwell Network Interface Modules (NIN) using PCIe Gen5 x8 interfaces, enabling customers to configure the appliance for a wide range of Ethernet speeds and interface types, including 1 GbE, 10 GbE, 40 GbE, and 100 GbE connectivity.

In addition to the high-density networking configuration, CASwell is introducing a second CAR-6050 SKU in a 4+4 configuration, combining four NIN network adapters with four full-height, full-length (FHFL) PCIe Gen5 x16 standard expansion slots. This configuration allows customers to deploy PCIe-based AI accelerators, SmartNICs, FPGA cards, high-speed storage adapters, or other specialized accelerators alongside dedicated network interfaces.

The 4+4 design gives the CAR-6050 a particularly strong expansion advantage for deployments that require both high network port density and multiple external accelerators. The CAR-6050 therefore provides four FHFL PCIe Gen5 x16 slots in this configuration, compared with two FHFL PCIe Gen5 x16 slots in the hybrid configuration of the CAR-6060.

Two Platforms, Different Optimization Priorities

The CAR-6050 and CAR-6060 address many of the same high-performance data center, cloud, and enterprise markets, but their underlying processor platforms provide different strengths.

The CAR-6050 with AMD EPYC 9005 is optimized for maximum CPU core density, memory-channel bandwidth, virtualization density, and scalable networking. AMD’s Zen 5 architecture supports AVX-512 with a full 512-bit data path, making the platform suitable for CPU-based analytics, packet processing, security inspection, and selected AI and inference workloads. For more demanding AI acceleration, the CAR-6050’s PCIe Gen5 architecture provides a direct path to external accelerator cards.

The CAR-6060 with Intel Xeon 6 takes a different approach, combining up to 80 cores with Intel’s integrated accelerator technologies. Depending on the selected Xeon 6 processor, the platform can provide Intel Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) for AI and matrix workloads, as well as QuickAssist Technology (QAT) for cryptographic and compression acceleration and additional engines such as the Dynamic Load Balancer (DLB), Data Streaming Accelerator (DSA), and In-memory Analytics Accelerator (IAA). Intel Xeon 6 also supports virtualization technologies including VT-x and VT-d as well as Intel Trust Domain Extensions (TDX).

As a result, the two systems offer complementary approaches for security infrastructure: the CAR-6050 emphasizes core density, memory bandwidth, virtualization scale, and multi-accelerator flexibility, while the CAR-6060 emphasizes integrated AI, data-movement, load-balancing, and cryptographic acceleration within the processor platform.

Built for Next-Generation Data Center Security

With its combination of high-density AMD EPYC processing, ECC DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen5 connectivity, modular NIN networking, redundant power, and enterprise-class remote management, the CAR-6050 provides a flexible foundation for continuous-operation data center and enterprise deployments. The system supports up to 12 DDR5-6400 RDIMMs, dual M.2 storage, four SATA ports, and a redundant power supply rated at up to 1600W.

The CAR-6050 is designed for OEMs, system integrators, managed security service providers (MSSPs), cloud infrastructure providers, and enterprise security vendors seeking to build high-performance network security, network management, and virtualized infrastructure solutions.
