The CASwell CAR-3081 flat, low-rise 1U rackmount appliance is a special edition of the well adopted CAR-3080 featuring four 10-Gigabit SFP+ and four 1-Gigabit RJ45 front Ethernet ports. These can be expanded by one or two standard network interface cards (NIC) for more connectivity. Because the NIC in the CAR-3081 use high-speed PCI Express 3.0, it can also be used by an accelerator card if required.
The CAR-3081 is powered by the Intel Xeon D-2183IT high-end processor based on the prevalent Skylake micro architecture which is already well established but still highly performant in today’s network and server environments. The Xeon D-2183IT features 16 cores plus Hyper-Threading for 32 parallel threads running at 2.2 GHz base clock with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.0 GHz while staying at 100 watts thermal design power. The CPU can be paired with four DDR4 memory modules with ECC and up to 2400 MHz for combined main memory capacity of up to 128 GBytes.
The PCI Express 3.0 expansion options use a riser card and include one dual-slot card with PCIe 3.0 x16 connection or two single-slot PCIe 3.0 x8 cards. Further expansion options for the CAR-3081 are one 2.5-inch SSD or HDD and one M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD for fast storage. Two USB ports are accessible in the front for standard connectivity and a display is optionally available. A redundant 300 watt power supply keeps everything running and secures system availability in case of PSU failure.
