CASwell Supporting 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors With Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory

New And Optimized High-End Server Processors Enhance Performance Of Current And Upcoming CASwell Network Appliances

04/03/2019 – CASwell, a leading manufacturer of innovative security, SD-WAN/u-CPEs and Cloud/NFV systems, is excited to announce the instant adoption of the 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with support for Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory in their current high-end network servers.

The new 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors succeed their widely-deployed predecessor, and use the same Intel Xeon Scalable platform. This compatibility makes them drop-in ready for current CASwell appliances (CAR-6010 and CAR-5050) and servers that have been successfully distributed with the first generation. With the new 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, customers can now equip these network servers with Intel Optane DC persistent memory modules. The new Intel Optane DC persistent memory, based on revolutionary non-volatile memory, allows much higher capacities than current DDR4-SDRAM while retaining the low latency customers want and need. 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors support over 4.5 TB of main memory per CPU socket, twice as much as the former CPU generation.

2nd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors feature Intel® DL Boost with Vector Neural Network Instructions (VNNI) to give artificial intelligence algorithms a “Deep Learning” boost to enhance language recognition, image and video analyzing or other use cases. Furthermore, these new processors deliver hardware-based mitigations for side-channel exploits such as “Spectre” and “Meltdown” and are being built on the optimized Intel 14nm process technology, so CASwell is looking forward to higher energy efficiency and better performance because of higher clock speeds.

Additionally, CASwell is reaffirming the commitment to Intel’s verified configurations by collaborating to deliver an Intel® Select Solution for NFVI based on 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in the near future. This NFVI offering will be added to CASWell’s CAR-3080, an already commercially available and verified Intel Select Solution for uCPE.

“CASwell’s high-end servers and network appliances based on the newest Intel Xeon Scalable processors together with the new Intel Optane DC persistent memory are ideal solutions for most industry sectors looking for scalable high-speed networking servers when needed for SDN, NFV or edge computing,” said Reaforl Hung, president of CASwell. “We appreciate the thorough and extensive research and development by our close collaborator Intel that made these solutions possible for us and our customers.”

CASwell’s servers and network appliances with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Optane DC persistent memory are available now and can be equipped according to almost every customer need and requirement.
