CASwell Announces Diverse CAR-5056 Versions Of High-End Network Server Switch At Intel’s Edge To Cloud Conference In Taiwan

Different Configurations Of Sophisticated And Programmable Server System For Different Target Markets

2022/1/25 – CASwell, a leading manufacturer of innovative and high-performance SD-WAN (uCPE/vCPE) and network security systems, has announced the immediate and long-term future of its CAR-5056 network server switch during a presentation at Intel’s Edge to Cloud Conference in Taiwan. This high-end dual Intel Xeon system with programmable Intel Barefoot Tofino Ethernet switch was announced last year and generated a lot of interest in different industries. Now CASwell is developing multiple versions of the CAR-5056 to meet rising demand.

The CASwell CAR-5056 is a top-of-the-line server switch for load balancing, network gateway and other typical applications by cloud and communication service providers or data centers and can be amplified by Intel Stratix 10 FPGA modules to raise performance and functionality levels even higher.

CASwell CAR-5056-GX

The currently available CASwell CAR-5056-GX is based on two 2nd Gen. Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Cascade Lake). With these processors offering up to 28 cores, this platform delivers next-generation network capabilities thanks to its disruptive levels of compute performance coupled with memory and I/O advances designed for compute-hungry and latency-sensitive applications. The CAR-5056-GX offers data plane improbability with P4 on its Intel Barefoot Tofino 64Q Switch and can also host four Intel Stratix 10 GX FPGA modules to meet the high-performance demands of high-throughput systems. These devices are optimized for FPGA applications that require the highest transceiver bandwidth and core fabric performance.

CASwell CAR-5056-MX

The network server switch can also be equipped with Intel Stratix 10 MX FPGA modules that feature higher speed memory (HBM2) than the GX modules with its QDR SRAM for blazingly fast access and throughput. These FPGA modules can furthermore configured with Mosys QPR BE2 memory to support more data and larger tables. The CAR-5056-MX is planned to be available in the second quarter of 2022.

CASwell CAR-5056-TF2

Later in 2022 CASwell will prepare the CAR-5056-TF2. This server switch model will use the Tofino 2 module – Intel’s second generation of the Platform Independent Switch Architecture (PISA). This offers even higher throughout, more programmable PISA with more resources, a unified traffic manager with a larger packet buffer and significantly better performance per watt. Samples of the CAR-5056-TF2 should be ready for customer evaluation by the end of 2022.

CASwell CAR-5056-NX

CASwell will upgrade its network server switch furthermore with the latest generation of Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Xeon SP Gen.3), the next Tofino generation (Tofino 3) and Intel Stratix 10 NX FPGA modules next year for another step in performance and improbability. The CAR-5056-NX is planned to be available to customers by the fourth quarter of 2023.

Conclusion & Availability

The CASwell CAR-5056 is the best Server Switch for Cloud and Communication Service Providers as well as data centers looking for a powerful solution for their increasing networking needs. The Intel Xeon Scalable Processors already represent a high-performance platform but integrating the Tofino Ethernet Switch module and the Stratix 10 FPGA modules add flexibility through improbability and even more performance. Due to its diverse configuration options and continued development the CAR-5056 series is planned to be a networking mainstay in many different industries for the foreseeable future.

The CASwell CAR-5056 can be configured according to customer demand or requirement and samples for customer evaluation are available now.
