Caswell, Inc. a global-leading innovator and supplier of embedded networking appliance, announces CAR-3000, a new compact and modular 1U rackmount Communication Appliance that can be the perfect solution for customers providing network security applications to medium businesses who want to cut costs and make a seamless transition to new technologies such as 10G Ethernet.

The CAR-3000, based on Intel® G41 and ICH7R chipset, offers a wide range of CPU support: from Intel® Q9400 Core™ 2 Quad through E7400 Core™ 2 Duo to E5300 Pentium® and Celeron® 440, and everything in between. It also supports the latest dual-channel DDR3 1066/800 memory platform up to 4GB; one 3.5? or two 2.5? SATA HDD or SSD; up to six GbE RJ45 onboard ports with two software controlled bypass segments (Fail-Open or Fail-Close); expansion capabilities include one PCI-E x8 interface for a modular bay for Caswell's ABN module product family; fiber and copper port connections including dual-port 10G readiness (Intel® 82598EB, Intel® 92599ES with SFP+ Interface and Intel® 82599EB 10Gbase-T Copper Interface); 2x16 character LCD display module options that include EZIO-300 (with 4 buttons), EZIO-G400 (128x32 graphical module with 4 buttons), or EZIO-G500 (128x64 graphical module with 7 buttons) and VGA pin-header available for software/application development.

CAR-3000 1U rackmount Communication Appliance is perfectly positioned for network security applications such as firewall, VPN, IDS/IPS, anti-spam, anti-virus and UTM, and network management applications such as routers, RAS gateways, QoS, server load-balance, wireless controllers, medical DICOM and PACS, and industrial automation control via Ethernet TCP/IP.

Modular Design Translates to Customer Cost Savings

According to Pomah Yen, senior manager of Caswell's product management department, the company decided to design the CAR-3000 1U rackmount network server as a modular form factor in order to help customers maximize cost savings in today's economy. “We wanted to include in this product with as many options as we could,” says Pomah, “and that naturally led us to think modular. This way, our customers have at least three choices for system placement: the basic configuration; a daughter card connected via the built-in PCI-E x8 Golden Finger; or their own third-party card. We gave customers a wide range of CPUs to choose from including Intel's Core™ 2 Quad, varieties of Core™ 2 Duo and Celeron® LGA-775 processors, so it's completely compatible with the EID roadmap.”

“But we didn't stop there,” Pomah continues. “We looked at even more cost savings by ramping up protection with two built-in bypass segments — Fail-Open or Fail-Close. This built-in fail-over function maximizes uptime for inline gateways, reduces costs associated with unnecessary downtime and provides our customers with a single supplier solution to further streamline their costs. Then,” adds Pomah, “we looked at how we could help our customers grow their own customer base by making CAR-3000 regulatory certification ready — including FCC/CE and UL — and RoHS/WEEE compliant, which means that CAR-3000 can be used both domestically and internationally right out of the box.”

Versatile Cost-Saving Configuration

Polo Huang, executive vice president of Caswell, Inc.: “CAR-3000 is a product that balances cost and configuration. It's expandable for future changes. Its modular design simplifies cabling. It's ready for the 10G Ethernet solution and can meet the needs of today's most advanced data centers. And it's designed for OEM branding.”

“What's more,” says Polo, “our customers not only benefit from Caswell's ability to consistently provide the most up-to-date technology and features,” he confirms, “but they also gain peace of mind from the long life cycle support inherent with every Caswell product.”
